Having My Say!
In the past week, I have thought a lot about life in general due to having our basketball season come to a close. One quote that I feel strongly about is, "Everything happens for a reason!" Our team thought we had it all together to get down to the state tournament: the talent, the chemistry, the love for the game and each other. We were really excited until our dreams came to a screeching halt with a lose to the state champions. I do not understand why we lost still. I thought all the hard work we put in would pay off. I realize we have to trust God in everything He does. He is setting each one of us up for something special I feel. We lost for a reason, but I know each one of us is trying to figure out why. We just got back from watching the state tournament at ISU. We knew we could have competed with each one of those teams. Each one wanted it so bad. We have to know that life is not fair at times and everything does happen for a reason even if we do not know the reason yet! We just have to keep pushing through to get to our dreams!

Connection to Whitman
When I read this poem, I could picture my childhood. I really connected with this part:
His own parents, he that had father'd him and she that had conceiv'd
him in her womb and birth'd him,
They gave this child more of themselves than that,
They gave him afterward every day, they became part of him.
I feel my parents are a part of me. I feel Whitman is trying to say that a child's parents do more for them than they will ever know. I feel my parents have done so much for me that I do not even realize. My dad always tells me about his childhood. I learn from his experiences and use them to create my own experiences. My mom says she can see herself in me. She acts and dresses how I do when she was a child. I feel my parents are a great part of my life. They have formed me to be my own person.

Emily Poem
The cricket sang,
And set the sun,
And workmen finished, one by one,
Their seam the day upon.
The low grass loaded with the dew,
The twilight stood as strangers do
With hat in hand, polite and new,
To stay as if, or go.
A vastness, as a neighbor, came,--
A wisdom without face or name,
A peace, as hemispheres at home,--
And so the night became.
This poem really got me thinking about what Emily was trying to tell us. I think the message of the poem deals with the night. As the night sets in, people start to go home and their lives stop. They are home from work. Everything seems so peaceful. I loved the line, "A wisdom without face or name." I think Emily feels darkness gives a person a sense of wisdom they do not feel during the day. The night can get a person to actually stop and think about their life.

transcendentalism!!!
In the past few weeks, we have been reading anti-transcendentalism and transcendentalism. I prefer the transcendentalism stories. I like to think that nature, people, and truth are always good. I love fantasy stories. In life, I like to think that everything in life will always end up with "a happy ending." I like to look at life with a good outlook as the "glass is half full." Living with a more positive outlook on life is more fun! My friend Katelynn has a positive outlook. When nothing seems to go right she finds the happiness in the situation. I loved reading Walden because I could really relate to his quotes. His quotes got me thinking about my life and how I can better it. Be positive! :))))
